Build Your Project

The Women’s Institute has significant capacity in project management, leading the various components of a project that make a non-profit organization’s vision of a new building into a reality. On every project, we work collaboratively with real estate professionals, such as architects, engineers, lenders, attorneys, public officials, service providers and the project sponsor, to manage community processes, zoning, closings, construction, lease-up, and first-year operation.

Our organization offers strong experience in implementing plans and technology in the construction and renovation phases that offer efficiencies for our properties once in operation and our assumption is that there are opportunities to implement these strategies in both new construction and building rehabilitation projects.  Green technologies often employed include Energy-star appliances, triple-paned windows, efficient heating and cooling systems, low-VOC paints, high-durability and sustainable flooring, and a myriad of other straightforward construction decisions.  In recent projects, we have also had the opportunity to implement more broad-reaching technologies, including achieving zero net energy design in Highland Woods,  photo-voltaic panels for CHOICE Center and use of demolished materials as fill for The Eleanor and The Franklin. Our Victory Gardens project in Newington, CT, is in the process of becoming LEED Silver certified and includes features such as rain gardens, efficient HVAC systems, and thermostats.
