In 2011, the Women’s Institute proudly commemorated 30 years of building homes and opportunity in our communities…and we’re just getting started! Since our inception in 1981, our organization has collaborated with non-profit organizations, public agencies, and community groups to create quality affordable housing for homeless and struggling families, and also bring key supportive services and program space to neighborhoods across the region. In all, we have created over 1,500 homes in these first three decades, and are on track to significantly increase this result over the next two years.
Our work in 2011 has reached new milestones in our efforts to combat homelessness across Massachusetts and Connecticut. This year, we have completed seven projects totaling 115 homes, the largest single-year production in our history. We have built new homes for at-risk families, veterans, and seniors, and have also preserved critical existing affordable housing that otherwise might have been lost to the open market. We hope you will take a moment and look through our retrospective of 2011, which highlights our projects, partnerships, and as well as our strategic plan which will guide our work in 2012.
Our work and reach continues to grow through our partnerships, and especially through the generous support of friends like you. Please consider a contribution to the Women’s Institute and join us in continuing to build for the future. Together, we make a difference for homeless families and individuals in New England, and we thank you once again for uniting with us in our mission.
