The Women's Institute is privileged to have been nationally recognized for its affordable housing work, including:\
2006 - Fannie Mae Maxwell Award of Excellence for Acushnet Commons, the rehabilitation of a historic school into family affordable housing with program services offered by our local partner. Additionally for Acushnet Commons, we were awarded the J. Timothy Anderson Award for Excellence in Historic Renovation through the National Housing and Rehabilitation Association.
2005 - Enterprise Innovative Ventures Award recognizing our partners in the development of Soromundi Commons, the redevelopment of the YWCA of the Hartford Region's former deteriorating housing tower into a full spectrum of housing options that includes 48 units of permanent and transitional housing, a 23-bed emergency shelter and associated program facilities
2001 - Boston Society of Architects award for innovation in built structures.
1999 - Fannie Mae Maxwell Award of Excellence for GrandFamilies House, a multi-generational project uniquely designed to support low-income grandparents as they raise their grandchildren, a model that is now being replicated nationally.
